HUNTSVILLE — With a 49-42 win over Winfield, Huntsville Middle’s Lady Bears were crowned champions of the annual Scott County Middle School Basketball Tournament here Saturday evening.
And, two hours later, the school’s boys team was also being crowned county champs after completing a 35-25 win over Fairview.
In consolation action that preceded the championship games, Robbins’ girls claimed third place with a 29-27 win over Fairview, while Winfield’s boys took third place with a 39-37 win over Burchfield.
Robbins received the sportsmanship award, while Huntsville received the spirit award.
Huntsville’s girls reached the championship game with a 32-10 win over Robbins, while the boys made it with a 52-29 win over Burchfield.
Emily Brooks and Ben Blakley, both from Huntsville, were named most valuable players of the tournament. Also named to the girls all-tournament team were Robbins’ Brooklyn Hutson and Abby Overton, Burchfield’s Sierra Young, Fairview’s Makayla Newport, Winfield’s Kaylee Martin, Whitney Lay and Paige Wisner, and Huntsville’s Laura Butts, Makayla Babb and Savannah York.
Also named to the boys all-tournament team were Noah Overton from Robbins, Billy Hall from Burchfield, Dylan Daugherty and Dillan Smith from Winfield, Tristen Terry and Dawson Branstetter from Fairview and Caleb Ball, Hayden Byrge and Aaron Carson from Huntsville.
