HELENWOOD — A tragic accident involving an overturned tractor claimed the life of a 34-year-old man in the Cherry Fork neighborhood here Thursday afternoon.

Christopher D. Bowling, 34, died after being pinned beneath an overturned tractor near his home Thursday.

According to law enforcement authorities, the father of two was gathering firewood when his mid-size New Holland farm tractor overturned, rolling onto its top and pinning Bowling underneath it.

Numerous Scott County Sheriff’s Department officers and EMS personnel quickly reached the scene — approximately a quarter-mile off Phillips Loop Road — after a call for help was received by 911 dispatchers. The emergency responders were able to lift the tractor enough to free Bowling, but he succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

The Scott County Rescue Squad also responded to the scene and assisted EMS and Sheriff’s Department personnel.

Bowling is survived by his wife, Melicia, and children, Riley and Kyle. Funeral services were conducted Sunday in Huntsville.
